Tuesdays with Dorie: Baking with Julia: White Loaves

Awesome week! I am so excited, this is the first recipe from the Baking with Julia group! I was really nervous about making my own bread, I had never done it before. It turned out to be easier than I thought! The first time, my little hand mixer tried to eat the dough, so kneading by hand it was! This time, I only used the mixer for a few minutes and then turned it out by hand for the rest of the time. Wow, what an arm workout! I was running low on yeast, so I only made one loaf. It turned out nicely and I plan on making grilled cheese for dinner!

Ready for the first rise

Fresh out of the oven!

I am very excited and a bit nervous (haven't been much of a baker beyond cookies in the past) about this group! To read the recipe, head over to slush and Jules. Thanks you two for hosting!!

  1. Your loaf looks gorgeous! I bake so much bread that I buy instant yeast in 1 lb packages these days. =) Works out to be much less expensive and keeps me stocked for a while. (I keep a small jar of it in the fridge and store the rest in the freezer, refilling as necessary.)

    1. Thanks! It was delicious! That is a great idea for the yeast, I will have to look into it.
